My Nail Art Story

My name is Ramy and this is my nail art story....

Ever since I was young, I've always been a nail biter. I like to believe that it runs in my family because I remember my cousins on my dad's side of the family used to bite their nails too. Or maybe I just thought that to make myself feel better. Hahaha. For years, I struggled with short nails there would sometimes start bleeding and were painful because of how much I bit them. Every time I saw someone with nice nails, I would feel jealous and wish that mine would look as pretty as theirs. I even got my mom to buy me a nail polish that makes your fingers taste bitter to help me stop biting my nails. But because we always ate crab on Fridays, I would use my hands to eat and eventually I just stopped using the polish because it made it hard for me to eat, and so the nail biting continued. And still, the jealousy of ladies with pretty nails continued especially the ones with French nails. I've always loved French nails. I used to think they were the prettiest and classiest and I've always wanted them but thought I would never be able to have them because of my problem. I remember my dad being so strict and saying I was too young to paint my nails. Obviously I couldn't just let it go, so I asked our maid to secretly buy me white polish when she went to the market but asked her to buy one that wasn't too obvious when I put them on so my parents wouldn't see, especially my dad. Then a couple years later when we first visited the US, I found this nail art book by Klutz that came with kid friendly nail polish. It was around $20-21 and because my parents were converting the amount to Philippine pesos, it was a lot of money back then and they didn't exactly wanna buy it for me. And because it was around my birthday, I asked for it as a birthday gift and I guess you could say that's how it all started. But it wasn't until high school that I really was able to let my nails grow and got into painting my nails all the time. Even though I still struggled with nail biting, I was able to grow them here and there. I remember painting my nails every other day or once every two days and back then I thought I was pretty good. Fast forward to the present, I had to stop painting my nails because of nursing school. But now that I'm done, I'm free to paint my nails again. It wasn't until May of this year that I got serious with my art, decided to be active in the nail art community and I couldn't be any happier! My nails aren't perfect but they're so much better than they've ever been.
